Gameplay Features

Inspired by the 8-bit era, and the many wonderful machines from that time, Life of Pixel is a traditional 2D platformer with plenty of modern gameplay elements.

Pixel features a massive variety of pixel art from 10 classic game systems – Atari 2600, ZX81, ZX Spectrum, Commodore 64, Amstrad CPC, BBC Model B, Apple II, Nintendo GameBoy, NES & Master System. Chock-full of moving & destructible platforms, double jumps, gravity inversion, traps and lots of different enemies. Not forgetting the audio – Pixel features an epic original chiptune soundtrack created using the original sound chips for each machine.

And Secrets! Dozens of special secrets to uncover and experience. From silly little touches through to great big mega-epic secrets! Look out for jetpacks, bubbles to fly, trampolines, hidden rooms and areas, secret tunnels and even a Sinclair C5!

Power-ups and Moves

Special moves and power-ups with levels featuring puzzles and secrets only accessible using Pixel’s new found powers and abilities. Fire pixel from a cannon, reach high areas by bouncing on a trampoline, find a jetpack and fly, discover the snorkel and swim through underwater areas, speed around on the skateboard and jump super high.

Super Secret Specials

Hunt through the levels to find the hidden Fruit and Candies. Collect them all to unlock a brand new machine!

Chip Music Goodness

We’ve worked with amazing chip musicians such as Gavin Harrison, Rob Lynch, Ashton Morris and others to create a fantastic chip music soundtrack for the game – and not forgetting the sound effects too! All audio created with either the original hardware or VST based emulation.

Amazing Pixel Art

Each machine is recreated to be as authentic as possible, with accurate pixel resolutions, colour palettes and scrolling. Look out for subtle nudges to NES & Gameboy games like Mario, Mega Man, Castlevania & Metroid, experience 8-bit computer classics such as Uridium, Jet Set Willy, Exolon, Rick Dangerous, Prince of Persia, Impossible Mission, Monty Mole, Blagger, Exile, Chucky Egg & Citadel and remember Master System legends including Sonic, Wonder Boy and Shinobi.
